What free means in an antidetect browser
Free can mean ads in dashboard chrome, not a hidden data harvest. Learn what free means when the app stays local and the tabs you launch stay clean.

Free in this category is usually a countdown. Ten profiles, one seat, a watermark, then a card form. Sometimes it is worse: the app is $0 because the traffic is the product. I want a third meaning, and I want it said in the open. Free can mean the operator UI carries ads the vendor owns, while the profiles you launch stay your profiles.
That is the MaskWright sentence. It is also the limit of what I will claim. This page is not a coupon. It is a definition of the price, filed with the rest of Antidetect browsers.
Three kinds of free you will meet
A meter. Hosted browsers give you a taste. The cookies still live on their disk. When you hit the cap you pay, or you delete profiles you still need. Local versus cloud is the class split. A free hosted browser is still hosted.
A harvest. Some "free browsers" bundle bandwidth sharing or resell a residential exit out of your machine. MaskWright dropped that model. There is no honeygain-style path in the desktop code. Credentials you paste for a proxy stay local. We do not sell your line.
Owned ad slots. The operator dashboard can load ads the vendor placed. In MaskWright those slots are iframes in the app chrome (sidebar and footer wrappers on maskwright.com) plus a small public JSON feed for creatives. There is no subscription code and no profile cap in the store. The $0 offer is the product. Ads are the funding.
How to choose an antidetect browser should treat funding as a first-class line, not a footnote under "pricing: free."
| Kind of free | What you pay with | What I do with it |
|---|---|---|
| Meter | A card later, or deleted profiles | Fine if you wanted a trial |
| Harvest | Bandwidth or browsing data | Walk away |
| Dashboard ads | Attention in the operator UI | Acceptable if tabs stay clean |
What the profiles are not paying with
A launched profile should not become a second ad surface you did not open. The honest caveat: the ads feed can include a launch URL and a repeating launch-tab URL. Hosted examples have pointed at lab pages. Defaults in code have pointed at an ad network. That is not the same as injecting banners into every site you visit, and it is not nothing. I will not claim users can disable ads from a settings toggle. The audit did not find one.
Cookie stores, proxy passwords, and profile records are not uploaded to a MaskWright profile API. That claim holds in the code we read. "Nothing leaves the machine" does not. Packaged builds check updates.maskwright.com. The ads feed is fetched on a timer. Dashboard iframes load third-party ad scripts. Geo alignment talks to ip-api.com and may probe geojs.io. Your own browsing leaves in the usual way.
Free is not offline. Core create-and-list of profiles works without a network. Updates, ads, and exit geo do not, unless you block those hosts yourself.
Free is not a substitute for Chrome, a VPN, or Incognito
Antidetect versus Chrome still applies when the antidetect app costs $0. Chrome remains the better daily driver for one life. Antidetect versus a VPN still applies: a free tunnel is not a second cookie store. Antidetect versus Incognito still applies: a private window is free and temporary. Antidetect versus Tor is a different job again. Tor is routing. This tool is profiles.
Do not pick a free antidetect because you wanted a free VPN or a private window that keeps an ads login overnight. Those are other products.
Encryption and free are not a pair
Marketing likes to stack "free" and "encrypted at rest." Only one of those is a price. The encryption claim, for MaskWright, is narrower than the FAQ sometimes sounds. profiles.json is AES-256-GCM. Per-profile Chromium directories, cookie import JSON, and localStorage import JSON are not encrypted by our code. Free does not make that distinction better or worse. Honesty does.
If a rival's free tier encrypts nothing and uploads the session, that is not a price comparison. That is a custody comparison.
What I will not sell as free
I will not sell unlimited fake accounts. I will not sell a volume playbook that happens to cost $0. What an antidetect browser is already limited the job to authorized logins. A free app does not change the authorization.
I will not sell trophy lab scores as the reason the app is free. How antidetect browsers work is the mechanics. We do not publish pass rates. A $0 download is not evidence that a site will treat the profile as a consumer laptop.
Free, here, means no paywall, no seat meter, ads in the chrome we draw, and a local store you still have to back up. If that sentence is not on the download page of the tool you are about to install, you are looking at one of the other two kinds. Download MaskWright if you want to see that sentence on ours.
FAQ
Are the launched browser tabs ad-free?
The operator dashboard carries ads. Launched profiles should not become a second banner surface. The ads feed can still open a launch URL or a repeating tab. That is a real caveat. It is not the same as wrapping every site you visit.
Can I turn the ads off?
I will not claim a settings toggle. The audit did not find one. Blocking hosts is a machine you control. It is not a documented product feature.
Is a paid cloud tool "more professional" than a free local app?
Price is not professionalism. Custody is. A paid hosted browser still holds your cookies. A free local app still needs backups. Pick the disk you trust, then read how the vendor funds the lights.
