Cloud phones versus a local Windows profile

Second and last cloud-phone piece. Local Windows versus a rented Android. We will not grow a review farm around phones we do not ship. Local Windows notes only.

Cloud phones versus a local Windows profile 1

A rented Android is a different product than a local Windows profile. This is the second and last cloud-phone piece. What a cloud phone is was the definition. Here is the comparison. We will not grow a review farm around phones we do not ship.

Local Windows notes only. No vendor matrix. No “best cloud phone 2026.” The page lives in Privacy because the choice is where the session sits.

Two computers, two landlords

Cloud phone: their rack, their Android image, their snapshots. You stream. Apps that demand a real device (banking, some social apps, push) may work better than a desktop UA. Custody is theirs.

Local Windows: your tower, Chromium 131 or fallback Chrome/Edge, optional Camoufox. Desktop fingerprints. HTTP/SOCKS5 you brought. Why we built local. Data residency is your disk. No sync.

A mobile proxy is still not a phone. Mobile proxy versus cloud phone. You can attach a carrier ASN to a desktop profile. You cannot make Play Integrity happy with a UA string.

Cloud browsers are the other rental

What a cloud browser is and cloud browser risk: desktop Chromium in a rack. Pick that if you wanted a headed Chrome you do not host. Pick a cloud phone if you wanted apps. Pick MaskWright if you wanted neither landlord.

What leaves this machine stays a short list on Windows. On a rented phone, the leave list is the device.

On a real desk the mix-up is usually ads plus creator apps. Ads Manager is a desktop web app. The creator app is Android. Two products. Two custody stories. I keep Ads in MaskWright on Windows. I keep the creator app on a phone the brand holds. I do not stream ten rented Androids to look like ten people. That intent is a farm, and we will not write the playbook.

A mobile proxy on the Windows profile can still be legitimate for a web session that should exit a carrier ASN. It remains a desktop browser. Do not tell a platform it is a phone.

Disk facts stay the same: profiles.json AES-256-GCM, user-data dirs not wrapped by us. A cloud phone’s disk facts are theirs. You will not ls them.

Pushback I hear: “the creator has to be on Android.” Then use an Android the brand holds. Do not stream ten rented phones to look like ten people. Ads Manager can stay in MaskWright on Windows. Two products, two custody stories. A carrier proxy on desktop is still desktop. Do not tell a platform it is a phone.

FAQ

I need Instagram as an app, not the web.

Then you need an Android you hold or a rental we will not sell. Web Instagram in a local profile is a different surface. Do not pretend they are equal.

Can I run both?

Some desks use a real phone for the app and MaskWright for Ads Manager on Windows. That is coherent. Streaming ten cloud phones to dodge device checks is a different intent, and not a guide we will write.

Will 0.1 add cloud phones?

Not in the code I can point at. Download MaskWright is the Windows app.

Can I mix a mobile proxy on Windows with a cloud phone?

You can attach HTTP/SOCKS5 to MaskWright. That is still a desktop profile. The rented Android is a second computer with a second landlord. Do not mash them into one SKU in a spreadsheet.

Two computers. Two landlords, or one. If you needed Android, rent or buy Android. If you needed isolated desktop sessions, use a folder on Windows. Do not mash the comparison table into a single SKU.
