What mobile proxies are
Mobile proxies are carrier exits, 4G and 5G included. One definition page, not a provider list. Desktop browsers can use them. That does not make a phone.

Mobile proxies are carrier exits. The outbound address is announced by a mobile network. 4G and 5G are radio generations on that path, not product SKUs that need their own essays. This is one definition page, not a provider list.
A desktop browser can use a carrier line. That does not make a phone. MaskWright is desktop profiles only. Authorized work only.
The definition lives under Proxies.
What the site sees
An ASN that looks like Verizon, Vodafone, a regional carrier. Often CGNAT: many users behind one outbound IP. Carrier-grade NAT and shared exits. That sharing is normal on mobile networks. It is also a signal that this IP is busy.
Mobile versus residential is carrier versus household-looking pools. Mobile ASN on a desktop browser is the mismatch note. Mobile proxy versus cloud phone is path versus rented Android.
| Trait | Mobile proxy |
|---|---|
| ASN | Mobile carrier |
| NAT | Often CGNAT, shared |
| Radio | 4G / 5G on the far side |
| Your browser | Still desktop Chromium |
| Stability | Variable, carrier-dependent |
What it is not
Not an iPhone. Client Hints on MaskWright still say mobile: false. Screen metrics still look like a monitor unless you lie, and lying without matching GPU and touch is how checkers fail.
Not a cloud phone. A cloud phone is a device image. This is an HTTP or SOCKS5 line. Proxies in an antidetect browser.
Not a free extra on a residential plan unless the invoice says so. We do not sell residential, and we do not sell mobile either.
When I actually attach one
An authorized job that already failed on datacenter and household residential, and the site is known to treat carrier ASNs differently. I still keep the browser honest as a desktop. I still use sticky if I am signed in. I still test the exit.
Signed-out public lookups where I wanted a carrier reputation. Fine. Do not import a shop cookie onto that line and call it a phone session.
Shared subnets apply. Mobile IPs are crowded. Your neighbor on the NAT is not your colleague.
What a carrier line feels like from a tower
Latency is bumpier than a VPS. CGNAT means the outbound IP you just looked up may be busy with strangers. Sticky may still hop when the radio peer changes. I treat that as a pool with a carrier ASN, not as a handset.
I attach it to a desktop research profile when I have a reason to want that ASN. I do not import shop cookies onto it and call it "mobile Instagram." I do not set an iPhone UA. I check the lookup page like any other line.
4G versus 5G on the invoice has never changed my checklist. ASN, sticky, logs, ethics. If the provider cannot name the carrier class, I do not need the G.
MaskWright still reports desktop Client Hints. That is correct. The street changed. The body did not.
I keep a dedicated note in the profile name: "carrier, desktop UA, research only." If I cannot write that without lying, I should not attach the line. Social logins that expect the Instagram app will not be satisfied. Ads Manager in a desktop browser might not care about carrier at all. Guessing is how invoices grow.
When CGNAT hands me an IP that already has a reputation, I do not "fix" it by hopping every request on a login. I change SKU or I sit on the house IP. Hopping is still rotating. I also note the carrier ASN in the profile so I do not later pair it with an iPhone user agent.
FAQ
Is 5G a different product than 4G proxies?
Usually a radio generation on the same kind of carrier exit. Buy on ASN, sticky, and logs, not on the G.
Can MaskWright emulate a phone if I use a mobile proxy?
No. Desktop profiles only. The proxy changes the street.
Are mobile proxies better for social logins?
Sometimes a site treats carrier ASNs differently. Sometimes CGNAT looks worse. Test. Do not assume a radio saves a terms problem.
